24 Hours Care
Pros
- A caregiver is present at all times and will be awake throughout the night
- Caregivers are more refreshed and alert since there is at least one caregiver rotation in a 24-hour period
Cons
- Higher cost of care due to hourly billing rate (compared to a flat daily rate for live in care)
- Less consistency due to rotations of multiple caregivers
Live in Care
Pros
- Reduced number of caregivers, resulting in consistency of care
- Establishment of a relationship between the senior and the caregiver
Cons
- Mandatory eight-hour sleeping break and personal/mealtime breaks during daytime hours for caregiver
- The senior is left with no direct supervision during breaks – if necessary, the family steps in to fill the gaps or hires additional care
